When the bone in the mandible (lower gums) has resorbed and become very small, it is hard for the gums to accept the denture. Some denture wearers that experience chronic soreness caused from the force of the denture will benefit from having a permanent soft liner built into the denture. A soft liner will provide better comfort, prevent ongoing soreness and will allow someone to chew food more comfortably.

Soft liners act as a shock absorber between the hard plastic denture base and the oral tissues. They are used to increase chewing comfort in new or existing dentures. Permanent soft liners provide comfort and relief from chronic soreness, severely flattened ridges that do not tolerate the chewing pressure, or ridges with prominent or sharp bony areas.
